Last Sunday (03/10/21) Renmore Hockey Club held their first taster session for kids.
It has been over 15 years since Renmore had a proper juvenile team and we are eager to get back to our roots and grow our club.
The interest we received in the taster session was enormous and showed just how big the appetite for hockey on the east side of Galway is. Overall close to 100 kids expressed interest in the event and close to 70 showed up on the day.
It was great to see in just a 2 hour window, all the kids ranging in age from 1st to 6th class and a mix of boys and girls pick up a hockey stick. For most this was the first time they would play the sport and judging by the smiles and feed back it didn't disappoint.
Like any small club we need volunteers to survive and it was great to see so many of our adult playing members turn up on the day to help coach, take attendance, take pictures and generally help out in any way that was needed. We will look to develop and help more parents get involved to ensure the future of the club. We would also like to highlight the generosity of The Connacht Hotel who did not hesitate when approached to sponsor goodie bags on the day, The Connacht Hotel do so much already for the local community but it was great to have their support. The treats were handed out as the kids finished their session and it truly capped off a great day.
Finally, following on from such a positive session we are already finalising plans to start official training. All those that expressed interest, turned up on the day or planned on turning up but couldn't make it will receive communication when we have an update.
