A great weekend of hockey for our club this weekend in action against our friends and rivals Greenfields Hockey Club. Our 4th and 5th class girls took part in a very competitive and good spirited blitz with Greenfields on Saturday. Following this our under16 team started their league campaign for the season taking on a very competent Greenfield's side. Our girls represented themselves very well and put in a great performance despite losing 1-0. This is a very young team in terms of hockey and we are sure there are great days ahead. Sunday kicked off with our ladies 1s taking on a fine Greenfield's u18 side who really took the game to our more seasoned side. Goals from Veronica Curtin and MaryKate Heaslip saw our ladies take the lead in the first half and this was enough to secure the win for our ladies team who remain unbeaten in division 3. Our under14 purple team took to the field following this and put in a strong performance against their opposition in green, with goals from Kate Brotherton, Abby Lohan, Rachel McDonald and Sophia Sheehy and some wonderful passing play from the entire team throughout giving our girls a win in their opening match of the league. Thanks to all of our coaches and coordinators, umpires and of course our fantastic players and their parents. Training continues Monday at 8pm in Dangan for secondary school girls and another fantastic weekend coming up with our u14 lilac team beginning their league on Saturday, blitzes for our primary school children on Sunday and our ladies 2s travelling to Athlone on Sunday. #keepitpurple #girlsinsport Connacht Hockey
